Run and tell that

So I have been researching some famous actors as of late, and what really amazes me is the amount of them that never went to college, and the amount that did.

  • Sam Rockwell for example. The guy is 42. His parents split when he was 5. He grew up in San Francisco. Spent his summers in NY with his mom. He never went to college. Instead, after high school, he trained with an acting teacher for 2 years. Yeah.
  • Gary Oldman got his B.A at Bruford Drama College. Then studied at the Greenwich Young People's Theatre.
  • Rachel McAdams. She went to college, and wasn't going to initially be a theatre major because it was "a bit of a joke" and when pushed to audition, she got in and eventually got her B.F.A in Theatre form NYU.
  • Kenneth Branagh is british. Studied at the RSC at 23.
  • Ryan Gosling got his break from MMC. Although he did Theatre in High School, he never went to college.
  • Evangeline Lily was a model.
  • Morgan Freeman started at an off-broadway in LA. He was in the Air Force
  • Al Pacino went to the Actors Studio and studied on THE Lee Strasberg. NBFD. He started working in one of the greatest times to be an actor in America. The 1970's.
  • Maryl went to Yale. Nuff said. What's funny is her real name is Mary Louise Streep. Say it really fast. Notice how there's no e at the end of the spelling of Maryl? Funny...

Well. I could honestly go on for days. My point for tonight is it doesn't matter where you go, what you do, who you know, how smart you are or how talented you are (although all these are GREAT assets). A lot, if not all, comes from luck. Luck luck luck luck luck. And the opportunities you choose to immerse yourself in. Don't knock community theatre because you never know who you'll be working with. AND chances are you are working with retired actors who know what's up, YA DIG!?
Anyway. Sore throat. Sally monologue. Lines lines lines. Done with HW (before 10? WHOA!?). I need sleep.
Keep what I said before in mind. You could be the most talented actress in the world, but if you don't take chances, how do you expect someone to take a chance on you?

<3 :)

  1. hope you are getting better… sore throat is not a lot of fun its just uncomfortable and difficult to swallow.

usually, i would take the Nim Jiom Cough Syrup (www.geocities.jp/ninjiom_hong_kong/index_e.htm ) which has a thick consistency formulation. it coats the throat and includes herbs that are particularly good for that application.

i hope it works on you as well.
