90 big ones spent in LA LA Land.
Phew, time has flown. There is so much to express and yet I cannot form the words. What a fantastic whirlwind I have thrown myself into and it is going wonderfully. Frustrating, yes, but beautiful. Everything that happens, even the stupid parking tickets I get on my car, are by means a lesson in the school of hard knocks, unfortunately. I had breakfast with an old friend/teacher a few weeks back and he said some very important words and they go something like this
"Think of everyday like a class. You're on the campus of the world and today your lesson is in parking, or not parking, or gas, or traffic, whatever. Sometimes you'll pass with flying colors, sometimes you'll fail and in the times you fail, you learn the most. I bet you'll always read street signs wherever you go now..."And BOY was he right...
It's been a while since I have blogged, or should I say had the CHANCE to blog, and I apologize to you and my brain. I have missed it, and so has my brain, because in a way it helps me organize my thoughts and keep what has happened in check and what is going to happen on the edge. I am so busy and it is so wonderful and I am so so SO grateful that I have done what I have done in 90 days. WOW. It has been a solid 3 weeks since I have last spoke so here is a quick update on my life:
- Work is... Going... I say it like this because it's constantly going. I technically work 4 jobs, as you are aware from my last post. I've come to the conclusion that I dislike working directly with people and their food. What I LOVE is the interaction between people. What I LOATHE is asking them if they want vegetarian black beans or pinto beans with bacon (yes, the pinto beans have bacon in them). Conversation is what I enjoy and witnessing the human condition, the struggle for them to come to the conclusion of what kind of meat to have and the realization that they have so many options to choose from. It's FASCINATING. But I do not want to make your burrito for you. I'll just be invisible behind the glass please. I greatly enjoy being a host. The only thing I don't enjoy is the amount of estrogen flowing and the constant power struggles between women that is constantly happening. Just do your job. Don't bitch about how someone else is doing theirs. MEH.
- Class is fantastic. If I could get paid to do improv class I would be ecstatic, as would everyone else I'm sure. It is truly amazing and I LOVE it. It forces you to listen, stay present and be honest. HONESTY IS NECESSARY IN IMPROV. And in life. You find so many life lessons and motifs while taking improv, and it makes it that much easier to breath and relax knowing that every choice you made was the perfect one, and the conversation is never about something else, it's always about the people. Man oh man is it good... AND working the box office Saturday nights means I get to meet the cool people that come in a perform, and flirt with cute improv boys, which is always a perk. I do love to flirt, but we all knew that now didn't we...
- In about 35-40 days, since I signed up for LA Casting, I have had about 12 auditions, give or take a few. Out of those, which were for a plethora of projects ranging from commercials to USC Student films to webisodes, I have booked 3 of those auditions. For you mathaholics, that's a whole 36% booking rate, which isn't bad. The important part is that I am auditioning like no bodies business. I had 2 earlier this week and I have 2 more lined up for this weekend. WOW. The Three jobs I booked were the LMU student film entitled Nightmare U!, an Extended Stay America commercial and a background waiter (which is cheating, because I didn't audition BUT you miss 100% of the shots you don't take, right?). It IS becoming a hassle to print out headshots every day, so I try to print out 5 when I can, but sometimes you just don't have the funds... Oy, that's a whole 'nother story...
- I haven't had the chance to work much background since we last spoke except a super fun zombie gig on Castle that Brittany and I got the chance to do together. WHAT A COOL EXPERIENCE!!! The entire time, Brittany and I kept saying how much fun it was, and in what other profession can you PLAY and get payed? Man oh man is this the dream...
I need to get my bike fixed asap, so I can start riding it more with the beautiful weather we are having here in Hollywood, which is still pretty weird to say. That I live in Hollywood.
I. LIVE. IN. HOLLYWOOD.
Dreams really do come true, and you can absolutely make them happen.
I wrote the pilot episode to a webseries that I hope to continue. Keep your hearts, and eyes, open for it.
